just another busy weekend

When Matthew started designing and making the blue spruce balls, some clever person (no names mentioned) said "wouldn't it be nice to have a sprinkling of snow on the balls.  So last Sunday, we hung the spheres up and added some red cornus twigs for a bit of extra drama and thought how splendid they looked.

Then came the first dusting of snow - just enough to make the town look seasonally festive.

But it didn't stop there.

Several hours later, we dug out the shop and carried on. 

Magic has been worked with metal rings and moss, spruce and cones.

oranges and lemons, fungi and cinnamon 

all to make garlands and swags, to decorate doors and mantles across the county

for a very natural garland, lotus heads, fungi, Spanish moss and seed heads



It's late night shopping in Petworth tomorrow Saturday 4th December

do come along, there will me mulled wine and carol singing,

farmers market and local crafts on sale.

Just one wedding this weekend along with several parties.

Fingers crossed for no more snow please.

It's a mad time of year for a gorgeous flower shop.  Geoff has just been on a buying trip to The Netherlands to purchase orchids and pansies, hyacinths and paperwhites, white owls and fluffy snowmen.

The farmers market is back in town tomorrow, so if you are visiting the area pop in to Petworth for wonderful organic sausages, fish, cheeses and olives.  Have a coffee outside the shop at The Bay Tree Bakery and don't forget to come and say hello or better still buy some flowers - just for you.

A Little Bit More....

I have been away for a week to a Summer School.  I would highly recommend this to anyone.  The venue was West Dean and the course was on how to compose a picture using the beast of a camera which I purchased only four weeks ago.  Our brilliant tutor was Jacqui Hurst and her photography is enough to get anyone out of bed at 5 in the morning to snap the sun as it rises.  I am not known as an early riser - but even I was excited about walking through the meadow with the mist rising to get some pictures at dawn.  I will post these later in the week.

But whilst I was away making merry with my Nikon, work continued back at Spriggs Florist. Matthew was in charge of twitter and managed some witty comments on how the week was going.  So a little later than usual I am catching up on our blog.

Once again I made Ellen model the bouquets which were made using the pretty Shanghai phalanopsis orchid.

I love the heart in the centre of the window - it just says it all.

The urn in the ceremony barn at Upwaltham is perfect for summer garden flowers.

Sarah modelled this compact bouquet of all white roses - if Sarah were to get married again I could see her wearing a gown by Alice Temperley and waft about with a bouquet of all roses.

Petal and Clara are requesting a mention in today's blog as they are feeling a little left out.  Clara is back from her sea side residence and enjoying being back in Petworth.  Petal is just happy to have her mummy back home.

Are you listerning to The Archers - we are loving the storyline with Alice and Chris marrying on holiday and Jennifers reaction - priceless.

Harriet's Vintage Hats...

In amongst the flowers and plants at Spriggs Florist for the next few months, you will find some rather beautiful and intriguing vintage hats. Harriet’s Vintage Hats has been visiting Spriggs for the last few years. The hats spend most of the year tucked away in protective boxes and acid free tissue, but for July to September they take up residence at chez Spriggs – to be ooh'd and aah'd at by visitors to the shop who duly try them on. Many say “my Nan had one just like that” or “oh my, don’t I look like my mother”.

So if you are looking for a hat for one of the many vintage events that is going on in Sussex this summer including Goodwood Vintage and Goodwood Revival then Harriet is here to help you.  With over a hundred original vintage hats to choose from, there is bound to be a hat to suit you and your outfit.

Goodwood Festival of Speed 2010

With the safe arrival of 6,000 stems of various roses, proteas, gloriosa, orchids, herbs, berries and foliages, work could begin on creating the arrangements that were to be delivered to Goodwood on Wednesday.
